INSPIRATION
During my visit at museum ‘De Lakenhal’ in Leiden, a city in The Netherlands, I saw some work of Jan Wolkers.
Some work in glass, some paintings and some poetry. He inspired me enormously and from that day on my life went different. More decisions had to be made.
I bought a book about his work called: “Marszwart & Titianwit”. Its about painting with black and white, but for me its about inspiration.
I made a picture of one of his works with a view on Leiden. The city and museum he visited as a child.

ARTIST
The south of France. Where else? The only place where windows are open by day and night. I always have enjoyed it very much. This was shot near Foundation Meaght. A museum where I met the modern artists in a great way of presentation.

CRAFT
It’s craft. It’s originality. There at the Duomo of Florence in Tuscany. It’s old. The cradle of the Renaissance. Italy. How is it possible!
As a photographer you will be amazed about the old beauty. Wherever you look you will meet the history. It’s on the floor too.

OLD & NEW
The ‘Concertgebouw” in Amsterdam opened at April 11, 1888. The Van Gogh museum is from 1973. Both the buildings are not to compare.
But when you visit both “arena’s” you get the feeling. Or you want to play and compose, or you want to paint. In both cases you will get ‘the essence of life’.
That’s why I am once a year in one of those ‘arena’s’. And walking in Amsterdam in a feast for the eyes of a photographer.

MESSAGES
“I am still there”, I hear them saying. A crispy silence occurs passing by the graves of the Jewish cemetery in Prague. It is overwhelming. What a sorrow! The image speaks for itself. Messages are given passing the stones. A leave falls down and stays over there. Another message of cooperation I think.

KEEPER
Once in a while in photography you met something to keep. This time I visit an old castle on the Island of Öland in Sweden. It must have been in Bornholm, because I’ve forgotten the name of the castle. Anyway it happened to be an experience in black and white. There I realized the lessons of Ansel Adams about the Ten zones of his zone system. The period with my Hasselblad an the film with 12 exposures. My darkroom too.
I remembered some annoying people came along. They were walking through my frame and I had to wait. But then they stood over there enjoying the view. They were of great value in my exposure. Still thanks folks!

BE PREPARED
Today, during my visit at De Kunsthal in Rotterdam, with the exhibition of Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists 25 Years, my camera ‘informed’ me to be out of energy. Normally I always throw two batteries in my backpack, which I forgot this time (grrrrr….). On top of all that I left my cell phone in my car as I had checked the opening times on internet (grrrr…again…). Maybe it’s time for a checklist…. Always be prepared is one of the items on You Tube concerning “to be a better photographer” …….. Anyway I made two shots.

ST. BAVO
I visited St. Bavo at Haarlem, the capital of the province Noord Holland of the Netherlands. A kind of Anton Pieck city with a center of remaining old houses and church from the past middle ages. The Bavo, as they call it, has a length of 108 meters and the width meets 47 meters at broadest. The wooden roof is at 10 meters and the tower meets 76 meters. The longest pipe of the Christian Müller organ has a length of 32 feet (10 meters).
The Bavo’s floor – the total building period during 1370 – 1538 – consists entirely of graphs. In total there are 1500 charts. The oldest of all from the 15th century.
The light falling through the stained glass windows is fantastic. The organist played softly in the background – so, I photographic merged into the light of St. Bavo.
