RAIN

An ambivalent attitude applies to me when it comes to rain. Of course you always take a photograph in the rain. The reality is that it is not my first preference. Nevertheless, the photos after a rain shower are always worthwhile. Everything has a different dimension.

ENJOY!

FILM

The good old days of film. I remember the darkroom with her special smell of the developer liquid. Today it is easy to transform a digital image into a true negative. Maybe the purist will deny the possibility of it. Anyway the black and white conversion of this image I took in Denmark is a true reproduction of the sky meeting the sea. And the possibility to go for a swim.

ENJOY!

DIVISION

I have always loved division of areas. It provides overview and structure. You could call it a certain cleanliness. In older houses you often find it. Perhaps of necessity. At the time, construction options were not as advanced as they are today. Even so, it remains clever to always come up with something so that the construction remains sturdy. Photographically, I find it a challenge to put things in perspective. And as my former teacher said “your point of view determines your perspective”. A phrase to remember.

COLORS

I love the colors of Denmark. As if time was not there. During summer I met those equal colors. However they are different I like the way they match to each other. The roofs equal. During a hundred year nothing has been changed. Except the windows, the doors, the electricity may be.

ENJOY!

BOTTLES

Do you remember those old closures from the past? They were on a beer bottle. Sometimes you come across them by chance. Worth photographing, especially in black and white. A bit hard printing because of the white caps. I love that contrasty image.

GLOVE

One of the great things about ‘Dordt in Stoom’ is that you can experiment with what you get in front of your lens for your convenience.

Several repetitions take place throughout the day, so you have these more or less to figure out.

Finding the right angle is one of the challenges during this event.

ENJOY!

FIRE

One of the special things about “Dordt in Stoom” is that you see objects that are not normally encountered.

That is exactly what makes you challenged photographically.

Here it is the copper colored helmets of the fire brigade that form a nice color contrast with the blue sky.

The clouds behind it symbolize the smoke from the fire, which of course is not there.

STEAM

Once a year an event is held in Dordrecht that revolves around steam.

There are all kinds of machines and also the greasy hands of the men and women on the steam engines.

A great photographic challenge.

STAIRLING

Not every stairling is the same. Sometimes you come across things from ancient times. For example an old house from 1800.

Then you meet original castings along the stairs and it is worth photographing.

ENJOY!

SHAPES

I look into Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture. The pious radiate towards you. That suits a Sunday morning. Art makes you happy, although her life was not always happy. Besides the color of the stone, the shapes are of great beauty. Good to keep that up all your life. I like the shapes and lines. It really is a gem.

ENJOY!
