Spring in the garden means appearance and disappearance. Like any year, but it’s never boring. My former teacher advised me to start drawing. ‘Drawing is looking’, he said. However I preferred to take pictures, now I have to admit he was right. Today I looked at some new leaves. They appear from the older ones and surprised me.

AND THE GREATEST IS
As we know from the good old days Muhammad Ali proclaimed himself to be the greatest. This morning a Dutch newsreader informed us about Trump’s action to fire the FBI-boss. Sitting in my garden and looking at the vulnerable violets my mind went back to the morning news and the former proclamation. Some of the violets rise above the others. Like they are saying: ‘I am the greatest’. I think it’s reaching for the sun in the best possible way. Anyway they do not harm anybody. Look for yourself as I could not figure out which flower to be the greatest today. Maybe the background is playing a leading roll?

COLORS
Today I found colors on my way. Inside the restaurant they showed several bottles with a different color in order to invite people passing by. In one of the corners, near a window, I saw the green/yellow combination combining the parked bike. In no time another biker passed the window. I felt like HCB pressing the button in time. The decisive moment. At home I saw the biker passing had a red cycle-bag too. Lucky me.
Up till now, day 70, I still wonder about seeing something of interest day by day. Meanwhile I enjoy the process of exploring my cameras.
I recommend every photographer to shoot daily, because like Louis Armstrong sang a long time ago:

MONDAY MORNINGS
On monday mornings I am in the pottery in order to improve my pottery making. Like photography it takes some time to inner the process. Working on a weekly basis means I have to wait for a week in order to prepare the bottom and to place my signature. During this week I store my ‘product’ packed in a plastic bag to keep it “fresh”. The next week – after the first baking process – I glaze my baked ‘product’. And the week there-upon – after the secondary baking process – I receive it back, hoping it looks like I meant.
So, the whole process takes some weeks. Meanwhile your patience is growing. That’s a big contribution in the digital age of photography.

My favorite museum in The Netherlands is still the Kröller Müller museum. It’s about Van Gogh of course but also about the unique architecture of the museum itself. And even the garden with all the sculptures is magnificent. Today one of the rooms seemed empty and I was impressed by the lines in front of it. In order to make a photograph I chose for the square format and the Acros film simulation. Suddenly a young boy appeared in the frame. At home I saw him pointing to the empty room apparently.
I love the lines in this image, but I have to thank the young boy. In spite of the lovely warnings of his mother he completed my picture in a very special way. I thank him very much, because people can complete an image like this one. Later on I saw his mother again……. and of course I asked for publishing.

First I found a new shoot of our former chestnut-tree. I’m always very much impressed by the form of it. Five small leaves starting from one point. At the same time I saw a new shoot of an oak-tree, which has a five leaves starting point too. I really don’t know where the oak shoot comes from. The former impressive chestnut-tree belonged to our garden. I stood there, listening to the raindrops falling down on the majestic leaves. So, looking at the shoot it felt to look at the soul of the tree. Meanwhile I found a smal vase of my mother. I’ve got only one vase of her, so the chestnut-tree shoot and the vase together represent a certain feeling, called SOUL. A lovely day!!

‘YOUR LIFE IS: THE WAY YOU LOOK AT IT’
That’s what I red today in an article of a magazine. So I said to myself: stop grumbling and live your life! So the light goes on….. Especially today, because it’s living a cold and windy day with no sunshine at all. Yes, I saw the light in a small pub in the neighborhood. Just in the window-sill it was waiting for me. I immediately shared it with my kids in order to start the day at a same level. As a photographer you should know it’s all about light, but sometimes it’s good something reminds you to it.

My 100 day journal consists out of images I shot with in mind: “yes, there it is”. Just that and nothing else. And than, if possible, I take some shots to work out the scene. Walking around in Rotterdam I encountered that feeling again, just at the boat of the Spido to enjoy the port of Rotterdam. It’s right opposite the jetty. I love the yellow against the blue color, complementary as they are.
Even nowadays the house-painters leave a warning behind about their paintings, saying: WET!! And, as you know, everybody tries to feel if that’s true. Today it’s raining most of the time and of course it’s wet in the garden. No warning shields over here, just raindrops. I like them for this this picture. Obviously waiting for a gust of wind. Maybe for more rain too. I don’t know.
It’s raining today. As I always said to my former students; ‘It’s good to photograph, when it’s raining’. So I did today. I found my good old Brownie, which I’ve got from my brother in law a long time ago. With my beach-umbrella in the garden I remained dry and the Brownie at the table too. Fabricated in 1953. I never took a picture with it. Maybe I will in future…. 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch. With the nowadays possibilities I liked my excersise.
