DAY 41 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – DECORUM

Treurwilg

DECORUM

Normally I don’t like weeping willows at all. I think they belong to cemeteries. All because of the sadness they display. To me there’s only one exception and that is spring. In spring, I think, they show their decorum in the brightest way they can do.

I do love the new green branches hang down.

In spring they decorate the darker trunks with their long vertical lines. Even the other trees, with their dark horizontal branches are lifting up a little bit because of the appearance of the verticals of the weeping willow.

Anyway, the weeping willow reminds me of The Kingston Trio with their song about

TOM DOOLEY

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley

Hang down your head and cry

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley

Poor boy, you’re bound to die…

My friends and I sang these rules after making a goal in a game of street football. Although it was a happy period (1958) I never get used to weeping willows in general.

But today they surprised me and made me happy looking for a new picture of spring.

DAY 40 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – DIMITRI

DIMITRI

The ferry-service from Dordrecht/Papendrecht to and fro, departs about every quarter of an hour. From the corner of my eye I saw these people, like me waiting for the ferry arriving. They carried a dear LP in the arms, so I got curious about it. As far as I could see the LP exist a long time ago. As a boy I listened to his well known song: ‘Hé, kom aan!’. Dimitri van Toren (1940-2015) a singer and songwriter, he joined the Dutch Top 40 in 1973 for 13 weeks at number 5. So you could hear him for three months and of course later on.

After putting my bike aside, I found these lucky people carefully carrying the LP and looking abroad the rail. I did not hesitate to ask for a photograph. They told me the LP to be enlarging their LP collection, which they love far more then CD’s. The man’s thump up and the smile of the lovely lady speak volumes. And today, I feel to be the lucky photographer!

DAG 039 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – PARTY

LET’S PARTY TODAY

Bloesem2

I think it takes one week the wonderful cherry blossom to disappear till next year. Spring feels like a spiritual moment in time due to the fact you never know it is the final  time to perceive it. As no one can really imagine spring remains, even after a 100 years, it is really true you cannot know it’s your own final time. My daily encouraging to enjoy life concerns this item. It’s because of myself. I want to be conscious about it as I am about my photography too. That’s why I hope to receive comments about it in order to become a better photographer. To me photography is a way of seeing an seeing means consciousness. And for me it all starts with enjoying the moment in life.

DAY 038 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – ENCOUNTERS

ENCOUNTERS IN DORDRECHT – HOLLAND

During my walk around in Dordrecht today I had some pretty encounters. As well as metaphorical and literal. At a certain point I a met a red chair. Waiting for something to happen I saw the moped coming along side. Not until at home I saw the red color of the moped. And again it was a lucky encounter.

Stoel

Walking on I met the old anchors and offices at the Kuipershaven and the good old tower of the Grote Kerk. I always like to walk overthere as it reminds me of the time that Dordrecht (I live next door in Papendrecht) was full of activity with lime and blocks of peat. Today you will find it back on the street names.

DORDT

At lunchtime a met a couple of workers having lunch at the harbor side. Self supporting, a sandwich maker included, I was invited tot sit down and listen to their stories. Acting like a family business they were full of joy and passion about their craftsmanship concerning restoration of old buildings.

So Dordrecht: the place to be! The company is to be find at Facebook: Maarten Mostert. It is more than pleasant to meet passionated people.

DAY 037 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – ASPECT RATIO

Bomenrij

Welcome to the cinematic aspect ratio of 2.39:1 says Take Kayo at Fujilove.com. I never heard about it before. Tonight I saw this line of willow trees waiting for applying this cinematic ratio. As far as I can see it succeeded very well. I think not every picture is suited for this purpose. Anyway I like this shot with the trees catching the late evening light while I was biking in the environment.

DAY 036 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – YELLOW

GeelToday it’s yellow. Everywhere you look, you will find yellow flowers. Nature  declares the time to be yellow.

Lots of dandelion and fields filled with rapeseed dominate nature at first sight.

It’s very cheerful for somebody who likes yellow as the favorite color. As it is to me too. I love the endless fields looming up at the sky-line.

So in my garden you will find yellow and yellow!

The morning light turns the yellow to gold a little bit. I like the backlight.

DAY 035 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – KEEP FIT

Tonight, around sunset, I met a couple of young and enthusiastic ladies, getting ready for a training at the riverside. The boxing gloves – laying on the ground – are waiting for their activities. As I asked for, the coach allowed me to photograph the gloves in particular. I like the shot because of the backlight.

BOX

The coach, Miranda Bakker, handed over her business card and now I like to introduce you to her website. It’s all about balance, consciousness, movement, enjoy, food, emotion, and weight. Looking at the warmth of the group and the website, I think it’s a training from the heart.

DAY 034 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – LINES (4)

I have to admit that I shot the items yesterday. Amsterdam always triggers something. It’s an inspiring town to me. So, looking around, I found new lines above the doors. Different patterns too. Enjoying Amsterdam is easy. You only have to walk around. The best way to do this is without any plan. Just walk around and  your camera cards get filled in a quick way. Sometimes I instruct myself to shoot a particular item (as with lines). For me it means: see more!

DAY 033 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – LOVE

Bloesem

For today I had something completely different in mind. Due to the lots off sunshine in the morning I could not resist to photograph the cherry blossom. For me the new day was felt with love. Two songs came in mind:

How do you like your eggs in the morning….

and

All you need is love, love……

So,

DAY 032 – 100 DAY JOURNAL LINES (3)

Today I looked for lines again. Starting at a railway station. Especially one of the METRO stations of Rotterdam.

Waiting for a silent moment, it remains a busy city even at saturday’s.

TRAIN

Lots of lines. Everywhere you look at you will find a line

RAD

BIBlio

The world build out of lines. I looked in black and white today. Sometimes looking through the eyelashes helped me out to find a Neopan-look. Even a new pair of shoes belong to my score today. Just lines their too and of course in black and white. For the mean time….
