DAY 011 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – AMSTERDAM

Today it all started by the information of the tramconductor (line number 4) during my visit to Amsterdam: “if you want to go to the center, you better get out now and walk. Because of the meeting of women at the Dam square, we don’t go to there”. So I checked out, concluding:

no trams at all in the center of the capital of The Netherlands.

Normally it’s busy in the capital, but today it seemed extremely filled with tourists from all over the world.

A little later I heard ‘the noise’ of the concert for flute.

To me the power of women felt overwhelming during their passing by with their boards filled with protests and recommendations.

And – during this week before voting for a new government – I rediscovered my voting decision.

DAY 010 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – ROTTERDAM

I went to Rotterdam this morning. The foggy weather felt like a blessing. Especially today as I took the boat, called ‘the Waterbus’. The sun was getting through and it was meant to be a sunny day. As I am waiting for spring I enjoyed my visit to this city extremely. Rotterdam – as usual – filled with activities of all kind. Especially caused by the workers of this seaport town. Today I used spot metering all the time. Just to enjoy the effects of the outcome. As there are more than enough subjects during my visit, I had to make a choice.

DAY 009 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – PAINT

It’s not only paint. It’s far more than that. Some creative people did their job in Breda. So they hit two birds with one stone. As they used bright colours I felt not obliged to strengthen any colour. Even not in post production. It was clear and sunny over there. Time for wine at the other side of te street. So…..

DAY 008 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – PRESSURE

Due to a low pressure area it’s raining cats and dogs in The Netherlands. However I intended to use my pressure washer to clean my lounge-chairs today, I had to wait a little longer because of the huge quantity of water coming from above. Although it was only dry tonight I decided better to make a picture. So, I present my lounge-chairs waiting in the dark for doing up. (meer…)

DAY 007 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – SAY CHEESE

When I hear ‘say cheese’ – and if people are not joking – I always wonder how serious it’s meant to be. Mostly it’s super serious and you can wait for “I’ve got cramp in the jaws”. And of course they do not look natural at all. Especially not when the ‘victim’ is a kid. I always feel very sorry for the kids as they have to smile most of the day from time to time. Today I saw real cheese. As a matter of fact I was invited to join a competition. Customers can make a guess at the weight of the three Dutch cheeses. I voted for xxx kilograms (I’m still in the race at Kraaijeveld’s kaashuis , they know everything about cheese you know!). Of course I’ll inform you about the results of this contest. Meanwhile… take care of the goat and…

DAY 005 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – REPETITION

The bicycle stand is waiting for users at this cloudy sunday. Sometimes black and white images arise from itself. It’s a matter of feeling. You know it as soon as you look through the viewfinder. Even the depth of field is as things are. No doubt about it. Easy stuff nowadays. I keep good memories of the period with my Agfa Clack. Black and white could be difficult – even where to push and hold could be encouraging in the darkroom. It’s all about taste in the digital world and easy to find out the correct film replacements. Anyway I love black and white. For the meantime….

DAY 004 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – REFLECTIONS

Everything seemed wet in my garden this morning. My eye catched the reflection of the candle holder on the table. A little challenge to find out ‘the angle of incidence is the angle of loss’ as I’ve learned at the Fotovakschool in former years. I do love reflections, because of the opposite. Usually you can learn from a opposite opinion if you want to listen to it. My former teacher always told me: “make another one; take a different angle”. This time I chose my first attempt. And even during rain……

DAY 003 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – DESTINATION

It’s election time in the Netherlands. It’s headache time for lots of people who are invited to vote at March 15. I photographed this sculpture today. The figure seems to study how to navigate and to find out how the wind blows. I do believe the voting people will sing in tune for the future. For the meantime …..

DAY 002 – 100 DAY JOURNAL – STORM

Due to the stormy weather the night was too noisy to get to sleep as usual. Most of all due to the noise of the storm flap at my summer-house. I started reading some magazines. Coincidentally articles on the need for a good night’s sleep. A good night’s rest, no stress and a power nap are hot items these days. In fact I started to photograph the disturber this morning. It was still moving in the wind. Hoping for better nights, I love the movement in the image. Today it’s still raining and windy. For the meantime….
